I was 17 when I got my first tattoo, my mom paid for it and I got it out of a shed. After I got my wings on my feet and the flames to go up my shin, I became good friends with the artist and he opened the doors of the tattoo world for me. Once I arrived in canon city Colorado I went down to the local tattoo shop. I proceeded to walk in and to be greeted by their piercer Bobby, I had asked him, about how to get an apprenticeship. After a moment of talking, He expressed if I wanted to come in every Sunday he wouldn’t mind since he ran the shop on Sundays. My mentor and he helped me out in a lot ways for my art career. I was under him for almost 2yrs. In 2019 I registered my self in at Hot Rod Bettie’s tattoo school, I made it through the course and I am now a licensed artist. If you would like some awesome skin art give me a ring, I’d be more than happy to help out!
I have been tattooing for a little over 30 years, and teaching for about half of that. I love tattooing and all the different aspects of it. I feel very fortunate to have had such a successful career in this industry and to have touched and helped so many different people with my art. With this art form and profession I am able to express myself creatively, learn and grow, support my family, and help others learn to do the same. I am proud to be included in this "community" and I love and respect my tattoo family. My books are currently closed
MEET THE ARTISTS
Hi! My name is Mars Manfrom. I'm a native Oregonian raised in N.W. Portland and the surrounding areas. I love to paint, play guitar, watch movies, play guitar, and play video games. I have five beautiful children...one of which is following in my tattoo footsteps. I love the satisfaction of exceeding a clients expectations and having them at times display the best emotions. I ended up at Dragonfly Tattoo where the proprietor...a man named Bones...just happened to be moving a safe into a shop. I approached him and had a brief conversation with him...showed him my arm...and he said come in tomorrow. Bam! Just like that I was a professional tattoo artist! I completed the curriculum at Hot Rod Betties Tattoo Shop and Tattoo School. I have worked at several shops and have traveled to several cities and states, tattooing in each one. Now I am full circle and back at Hot Rod Betties! It's a great crew and I look forward to more adventures.
I have wanted to be a tattoo artist since I first told my mother when I was 6 years old. I love being able to transform art and ideas onto a person's skin that will make a lifelong memory for them. Whether it be something that has a deep emotional meaning to them or it's just something they think is neat, I'm happy to make it happen. Outside of tattooing I am a family man with 4 boys and love to do pretty much anything outdoors. With that said come on down and get tattooed
Hello - my name is Tyler Johnson. I have been tattooing for about 10 years.
Here are our artists. They are all unique in their ability and are all equally dedicated to becoming the best tattoo artist they can be.
There is over 30 years of tattooing experience combined between all of the artists, and each artist has a type of tattoo that they are most comfortable doing. Some have degrees in art and have wanted to expand that to the art of tattooing, while others have gone the traditional route of being an apprentice. Although in current times it is required by law in Oregon that those learning the art of tattooing do so via a designated tattoo school, there is still so much to learn by those who have been in the industry for many years. They also love to be challenged and expand into areas that they feel are outside of their comfort zone – they call this the “learning zone”. Each artist has had life experiences that help to shape the type of artist they are becoming.
Please take the time to look through each of their galleries to see what they have to offer and feel free to ask questions to a particular artist or to any of them in general. There is always someone available to answer any questions you may have. If you choose to send an e-mail from the website we will try to answer it within 48 hours. Don't be shy - remember the old saying, "There are no stupid questions!" so unlock that curiosity and start looking at art and asking questions as they come to you.
